Pharmacy Residency

In conjunction with the �ֲ��ý HealthWise program, �ֲ��ý Northern University offers a PGY1 Pharmacy Residency. The residency program provides pharmacy graduates that match into the programs with the unique opportunity to work in an extremely innovative health care setting. In the program, residents work with an interdisciplinary team of pharmacists, nurses, exercise physiologists and nutritionists that serve Hardin County citizens and employees and students of �ֲ��ý Northern University. Opportunities for clinical expansion also exist, including supervising activities in the Drug and Health Information Center. The resident is required to complete a residency project, provide a poster presentation at the ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting, and present results at the annual �ֲ��ý Pharmacy Residency Conference.

Jessica Hinson, PharmD, BCACP, NCTTP, FAPhA is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at �ֲ��ý Northern University Raabe College of Pharmacy. She also serves as the Residency Program Director for the �ֲ��ý HealthWise ambulatory care residency program. She earned her PharmD from the University of Cincinnati, and completed a PGY-1 Community Practice Residency with West Virginia University School of Pharmacy and Waterfront Family Pharmacy. Her professional background includes community practice, ambulatory care practice, and provision of telehealth services. She has experience with providing pharmacy services based on quality care measures in community practice and telehealth settings. Personal interests include empowerment of women and girls, engagement of grade school students in STEM education, and domestic animal welfare.

Michelle Musser, PharmD, BCPS, CTTS
Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice, �ֲ��ý Northern University

Michelle Musser is currently an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice at �ֲ��ý Northern University College of Pharmacy. She also serves as the Director of Outreach Programming and chair of the Interprofessional Education Committee at the College. Her practice area is in ambulatory patient care, including practice in disease state management within a local physician's office and FQHC. She also has a contingent position at a critical access hospital.Recently she has worked closely with the clinical services at �ֲ��ý through �ֲ��ý Healthwise, offering clinical services through the mobile rural health clinic and being involved with COVID testing and vaccine efforts. A native of the rural community where �ֲ��ý is located, Michelle along with her colleague, Emily Eddy, developed and founded a rural scholars program at the College aimed at preparing health professional students for a career in rural health and developing community-based projects aiming at meeting local health care needs.

Current Residents

Abrianna McManis, PGY1 Resident

Abrianna Singleton, born and raised in rural southeast �ֲ��ý, was drawn to the �ֲ��ý Healthwise PGY1 Residency Program because of the opportunities to provide pharmacy services to underserved areas. Coming from a small village, she experienced the low health literacy barriers and is passionate about helping patients succeed.

Abrianna earned her Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Findlay, where she served as president of Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International (CPFI) for two years. She completed service projects alongside her classmates, which reinforced her drive to support the community.

During her last year of pharmacy school, Abrianna realized she enjoyed being in an ambulatory care setting due to the meaningful time she was able to spend with patients. “I have witnessed firsthand the positive impact of having a conversation with a patient one-on-one to educate them," Abrianna shared. “Healthwise allows for this type of service to be carried out in a variety of avenues.”

Aside from ambulatory care, Abrianna has an additional interest in being a mentor for pharmacy students. Her goal is to be a helpful guide for those navigating pharmacy school, including the transition from student to pharmacist.

Kaitlyn Kirby, PGY1 Resident

Kaitlyn “Katie” Kirby, PharmD ’25, a Bluffton, �ֲ��ý native and proud �ֲ��ý graduate, chose the �ֲ��ý Healthwise PGY1 Residency program to serve her local community and continue growing with a healthcare team she respects and admires.

Katie began working with Healthwise during her second year of pharmacy school—right in the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic. She played a role in frontline efforts, swabbing patients and assisting with COVID-19 testing for students, faculty, staff, and community members. Later, she transitioned to a pharmacy intern role with Healthwise, further strengthening her clinical experience.

“Throughout my time with Healthwise, patient interaction was very important to me,” Katie shared. “That connection ultimately became a deciding factor in selecting my PGY1 residency.”

Katie understands the challenges many rural residents face in accessing care, especially those with limited resources. Now she’s proud to provide care for her hometown and neighboring areas, as Bluffton is a Healthwise clinical site.

“I’ve seen how much we mean to the community and the strong impact we can have,” she said. “It’s incredibly rewarding to build long-term relationships with patients.”

Katie is also enthusiastic about working with �ֲ��ý pharmacy students.

“When I was a student, the Healthwise residents were wonderful role models and helped me grow as a student pharmacist. Now, I am honored to be able to support and mentor current students.”
